MuslimNameVault is a free reference for Muslim and Islamic names: their meanings, their linguistic origins, how they are written across seven languages, and where those readings come from. It is published by K Digital Systems LLC and built and maintained by Saqib Khan.
What is in the database
The vault currently holds 11,486 entries: 5,870 distinct names and 5,616 recorded spelling variants that redirect to the spelling they belong to. Each distinct name carries a meaning, a linguistic origin, and where available an etymology and a script rendering in Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Turkish, Bengali, Indonesian and Pashto.
How names are sourced
Meanings and etymologies are drawn from published lexicons and reference works rather than from other name websites. Where an entry rests on a specific source, that source is recorded against the entry and shown on the name's page, so a reader can check a claim rather than take it on trust.
What is reviewed, and what is not
Being straightforward about this matters more than looking authoritative. Meanings, origins and citations are editorially maintained. The finer classification layer - the tags describing linguistic family, Islamic significance and regional usage - was largely assigned by an automated pass over the source text, and only a small portion of it has since been checked by hand. Expanding that review is the main work ahead.
Pronunciation audio is machine-generated speech, not a recording of a native speaker. It is a guide to syllable stress, not an authority on pronunciation, and regional pronunciations differ legitimately.
Corrections
Names carry religious, cultural and family weight, and a wrong meaning is worth fixing quickly. If something here is wrong, please tell us and say which name and what the correct reading should be. A source reference helps enormously.
What this site is not
This is a linguistic and cultural reference, not religious guidance. It records how names have been used and what they have been understood to mean. It does not issue rulings on whether a name should be given.
